[edit] Overview

The Intel Extreme Masters is ESL's flagship competition sponsored by Intel. IEM is a huge tournament series spanning many months and individual competitions culminating in the Global Championships. Each year the games which are played change, the first season to incorporate League of Legends was Season V with a four team invitational and due to its huge success it was picked up again in Season VI. Tournaments involved in the IEM range from small online qualifiers with $100 prizes to huge live events giving away upwards of five figure cash prizes to the winners of major events. It should be noted that not every event includes League of Legends but for this article, we will only be talking about the League of Legends portion of the events.
