As with any wiki, Leaguepedia depends on the contributions of the community. Everyone is encouraged to help! This guide provides an overview to the basics of contributing to Leaguepedia, as well as an introduction to our current projects and efforts in making Leaguepedia a better place. If you ever need any questions answered, you can contact a moderator via via our IRC channel, #Leaguepedia on Quakenet, using either this webchat, or your own IRC client. Introduction to Creating and Editing Content Leaguepedia is powered by MediaWiki (with an assortment of extensions). MediaWiki utilizes a mix of HTML code and Wikicode to generate pages. For help with wiki formatting, see this formatting guide. At Leaguepedia, a user must create an account and be logged in before one can create or edit any pages. When adding or editing content, be sure to conform to Leaguepedia's Style Guide, and when adding new information to cite your sources by adding references. Creating a New Page See also: Leaguepedia:List of Templates Notability Guidelines Due to the vast number of League of Legends players, we are unable to keep up-to-date with every single player and team that exists. So that we can maintain a certain level of quality, we have put notability guidelines in place for when a team(and that team's players) should have Leaguepedia pages made for them. A team must meet the at least one of the following requirements to be considered prominent enough to have a Leaguepedia page created: Top Eight placement in a Major or Premier event Top four placements in Minor event First place in a Monthly event Multiple Weekly event victories These are just general guidelines, and exceptions for them do exist. For example, if a new team forms with players that already have Leaguepedia profiles, it is generally okay to create the team page. If you're unsure if a team meets any of the requirements for page creation, contact a Leaguepedia editor. How to Create a New Page There are a few ways to start a new page. The easiest is to find the page linked from an existing page and click that link. Links without pages attached to them are easy to find because they will appear as red text. If the page you want to create is mentioned on an existing page but isn't being linked to, you can edit the page and add [[double brackets]] around it and save the page. Putting double brackets around text will create a link to a page on the wiki. The second method to starting a page is to enter the desired page name into the search bar and search for it. As long as the page does not exist yet, you will get the top result as "Create the page "Page Title" on this wiki!. Just like the above method, clicking the red link will get you started on the page. The third method is to enter the desired page title into your browser's address bar and hit enter.(ex: http://www.leaguepedia.com/index.php?title=Desired_Page_Title ) If you use this method, you have to remember that page titles need underscores between each separate word and that all page titles are case sensitive, so proper capitalization matters. For most users, it is recommended to use either of the first two methods. Once you've gotten to the editing screen for your new page, you need to fill in all the information. At first this may seem like a lot of work, but don't worry, we've got your back. Depending on the type of page you wish to create, choose the correct template page (best accessed as a preload on the page creation page, above the text-box). Player Template Team Template Tournament Template Using one of these templates, the only work you'll need to do is fill in the blanks with the correct information. Be sure to cite your sources by adding references and follow the Style Guide. While it is encouraged to fill in every possible blank, it is okay to leave something empty if you can't find information. Every new page gets reviewed a Leaguepedia Editor, and is appropriately marked based on its needs. Something to keep in mind when creating pages is that all links and titles are case sensitive. That is to say—capitalization matters. For example, creating a link to the page "HotshotGG" will generate a different url than linking to the page "hotshotgg". If you happen to create a page with an incorrect title, don't panic. A redirect can be set up to send any links of the incorrectly titled page to the correctly titled page. Before publishing a new page, be sure to first preview it by clicking the "Show preview" button to make sure everything is in order. If you would like a place to save and work on your page until it's ready for publishing, feel free to utilize your sandbox. Sandboxes are an extension of one's user page; anyone is free to edit their own! Editing an Existing Page How to Edit an Existing Page Editing an existing page is much simpler than creating a page from scratch. First you just navigate to the page you wish to edit, then click on the Edit button at the top right of the page, next to the search bar. From there you'll be taken to the page editing screen and will have access to the entire page's code and can fix any mistakes or fill in any information. If you only want to edit one section of the page and not the whole thing, you can often find an Edit button next to section headers. Clicking this edit button will take you to an edit screen containing just the code of the section you were viewing. This makes it much easier to edit pages with lots of sections, large tables, or lots of code to them. Now that you've applied changes don't just hit the Save Pages button. First hit the Show Preview button and you'll be shown what the page will look like with your edits added to it. Check the page to make sure everything is correct, then hit the Save Page button at the bottom left. If you look at the page preview and find an error, the editing box is right there for you to apply any changes. If you do edit more, be sure to check the page preview again before saving. Edit Summary Before you save your Edit, you can leave a note in the Summary: box describing what you changed e.g. "Added results from day 2" or "Updated team roster". While it's not a huge deal, leaving a brief, informative summary of what you changed is very helpful for tracking changes more effectively. Why Can't People See My Changes? As a vandalism counter-measure, Leaguepedia features an approval system for all page edits. If you edit a page, you will be able to see the changes you've made, but the page must be approved by a user with Editor or Admin status. Only after a page is approved will edits be visible on the page to Leaguepedia viewers. Where to Contribute Leaguepedia has many areas where improvement is needed and contributors are always welcome to help! Individual Pages Leaguepedia utilizes Maintenance Templates as a way of keeping track of pages that need improvement. A full list can be found at our Contributor Portal. Collaborations In addition to individual articles, we at times have ongoing collaborative projects pertaining to various sections and extensions of Leaguepedia. Open projects which anyone is invited to help can be found on the Notice Board in the Contributor Portal. Back-End Projects In addition to front-end projects open to everyone, Leaguepedia also has many ongoing back-end projects, including: development of new functionality for the Leaguepedia, live event coverage, Leaguepedia Twitch.tv content, and more!
